Wellington Night Shelter (New Zealand)
In order to continue my passion for ending homelessness, I worked as a Trustee for the Wellington Night Shelter on a voluntary basis. The rebuild of the facility during my time in post allowed me the opportunity to challenge the status quo & suggest a new approach to the service delivery. Together with two other board members, I developed the policies & procedures for these more proactive services. It was necessary to gain cooperation from & enthuse trustees from 11 social service providers, each with their own potentially conflicting agendas & values. The success of the facility & the positive feedback received from the service users, stakeholders, board & community at the time was evidence of the success of the new service delivery model.
